Congrats to Masters Jun and Cathy! Thanks again to Tito Archie and Tita Remy, and to everyone for the amazing food and company. More pictures here.
A second batch of FSAers graduated this summer. Congratulations to Ms. Jeneylyne Colcol for graduating with a M.S. in Plant Pathology and to Mr. Leonard Abadam for graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. See pictures of Jen's celebration party here. Kudos to you both!
For this school year we would like to welcome the new students: Lynn Esther Rallos (Ph.D. in Plant Pathology) and Tiffany Laude (Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics). We are also proud to present our new President, Catherine Aragon.
Congratulations to Ms. Vida Alpuerto for graduating with a M.S. in Agricultural Economics! She is currently working at IFPRI in Washington D.C. Pictures from her celebration/farewell party are coming soon.
Dr. John Paul Vergara also finished his teaching for the Spring Semester at VT and has gone back to the Philippines. He said he'll go back to B'burg probably in the next couple of years. View pics from his farewell dinner (for this year) at Charlie's Chinese Restaurant. Thanks to Mel for the pics and solo shots..hehe..
Congratulations to Prof. Marte Gutierrez for his new position as professor and department chair at the Colorado School of Mines. Congratulations also to his daughter Kristine for graduating from high school and for getting the environmentalist award. The Gutierrez family is now living in Colorado and it's sad to see them go as they stayed in Blacksburg for 8 years. Pics from their farewell party at Tita Remy and Tito Archie's place are here:
Finally, one of the pillars of FSA, Dr. Jess Calata, went back to the Philippines for the mean time. Hopefully he'll be back to the US (and hopefully in Blacksburg too) soon. Pictures from his farewell picnic party at Claytor Lake are c/o Mel, Jess and Tito Archie. View also the pictures from the dinner at Mike's grill.
We will surely miss y'all. Thanks to everyone who joined these celebrations!
The International Street Fair at VT was held last April 5. The FSA definitely worked hard but had fun at the same time. The BBQ is the most popular as always, but we ran out of Pancit first. We also did Pork Adobo Sandwich, a new addition to the menu. Thanks to Tita Remy and TIto Archie for hosting the party after the fair. For photos of FSA c/o me and my friend Hiro click here, and for photos c/o Joan A click here. Photos of the entire fair c/o Hiro are here.
It's been a while since we posted here, and a lot of things have happened! I arranged our activities from the most recent to the most ancient so it will still seem to be a continuous thread.
Here are some pics from the Thanksgiving Party last year. We first went to Tita Lee/Tito Joel's house and Joan A. was able to take a lot of pics there. We then went to Tito Archie/Tita Remy's house, but I was clumsy enough to delete most of the pics from my camera so there were only a few left! Sowee..:(
The most exciting thing that we did is when we took pictures in Squires wearing national costumes. All of the new FSA members definitely have their own confidence and national pride! Here is just a hint of our craziness:
Thanks to Joan A. for her excellent picture-taking skills and fantastic camera! You can view the rest of the pictures here.
Last Fall the FSA had Pinoy visitors from the Philippines. One is Dr. Ramon Razal, Dean of the College of Forestry at the University of the Philippines Los Banos. He is an alumnus of VT and went to Blacksburg to give a seminar at The Inn at Virginia Tech. Before he left we had dinner at Charlie's Chinese Restaurant in Christiansburg (coincidental with my birthday, hence the cake with lusis). More pics here.
